Our Work

Client Reentry Services

Parole Project’s peer-led reentry program meets client needs with calculated care. Our program includes housing, programming, social workers, mental health services, mentoring, and community reintegration. These wraparound services meet need gaps at release and help our clients begin to rebuild their lives.

Advocacy and Representation

Our clients begin their reentry journey well before their release. Each Parole Project client is interviewed and vetted by our staff to determine eligibility, need, and risk before they are accepted into our program. Some clients may reach out to us to apply, but many are identified by our staff as potential matches. Depending on their situation, some clients may require special assistance to prepare for their hearing prior to release.

Policy and Reform Work

Parole Project actively works with legislators, other organizations, and advocates to impact policy decisions that affect incarcerated individuals. We have worked with lawmakers to introduce legislation that expands release opportunities for Louisiana’s longest-serving populations, providing insight and serving as examples of the benefits of second chances. We have also worked with the Department of Corrections, Pardon and Parole Board, and other groups to reform administrative practices, improve accountability, and provide transparency for incarcerated individuals seeking release. Our effective reentry work reassures decision-makers that these changes will benefit both incarcerated individuals and the communities they will rejoin.

Community Engagement

Parole Project recognizes that community interaction is a vital component of reentry for our clients and an important opportunity for residents to build trust and understanding with formerly incarcerated individuals. We conduct several methods of outreach to foster connections and faith between our program, clients, and communities.

Narrative Change

While Parole Project’s foremost goal is to provide reentry services to clients, we recognize that the public perception of formerly incarcerated individuals can play a significant role in their journey. We employ several strategies to share awareness of our clients’ experiences, foster understanding of their struggles, and garner support for second chances. By sharing our clients’ successes, we aim to shift the overall perception of incarceration and influence the attitudes of those who have not lived through these experiences. Our goal is to help stakeholders make informed decisions when considering how policy changes, employment opportunities, and supporting second chances for formerly incarcerated people.
