Louisiana Parole Project traveled to Washington, D.C. in early September to recognize the 10th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s landmark Miller

Do you remember the early 1970’s? What about the 1960’s? For those who do you will likely remember those years as a time of great change.
WORKING IN CONJUNCTION WITH NEW ORLEANS DISTRICT ATTORNEY Jason Williams and his civil rights division, Parole Project successfully won the release of the first two 10/6 lifers who, at the time of their conviction, were told they would serve a maximum of 10 years and six months but who remained in prison for more than 50 years.

In a major legislative win for justice reform that will benefit hundreds who had been locked out of an opportunity to make a case for their rehabilitation, the “parole equity gap” legislation, HB145, became law last week when Louisiana lawmakers gave it final approval and it was signed by the governor.

FROM BANKERS, SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS, CEOs AND ENGINEERS, to attorneys, professors, members of the faith community, college students, and former law enforcement officers, Parole Project volunteers are a diverse group with a broad spectrum of experience and specialized knowledge.

The prospect of losing one’s autonomy is a possibility absent to the minds of most college students.
