James came to Parole Project as a client in 2024 after 51 years in prison. Today he works as a reentry coordinator. Growing up in New Orleans as one of 13 children, he found joy in the constant energy of a big family and sports, especially basketball. While incarcerated, he trained dozens of men of all ages in boxing and in life and continues to stay active by riding his bike on the levee to and from work where he loves to watch the ships pass on the Mississippi River.
James is the first to arrive each morning at Parole Project, where he finds meaning in connecting with others and contributing to the mission. He loves seafood and is close with his large family of brothers, sister, nieces and nephews who live across the country. His happy place is in the peace of the countryside, his favorite show is “The Walking Dead,” and he keeps life simple: “I got love in my heart for everyone.”
