Parole Project is leading the way in advocating for men and women who deserve a second chance. As a supporter, we want to let you know about a part of the justice system that many people aren’t familiar with – commutations. In Louisiana, our governor has the authority to grant clemency to individuals recommended for a commutation of sentence by the pardon board.
More than 4,000 people are serving life without parole sentences in Louisiana – the highest per capita rate in the nation. For them, a commutation is their only hope for freedom. Many of them have spent decades in prison, matured, and demonstrated true rehabilitation. Our organization provides advocacy for the release of our deserving clients and gives them the support and resources they need to rebuild their lives after coming home.
Please take 10 minutes to watch this video highlighting several of our clients who are home today because of our support and because of a commutation from the governor. They are true success stories. If you are passionate about our mission and agree that clemency works, please reach out to tell the governor that you support giving second chances through commutations.
